However good the finishes are, if the design of the building is poor, the end result is bound to be disappointing. So, at the heart of our organisation is the design team, who can translate your ideas and requirements into a home that not only looks good, but will also works in terms of practical day to day living.

No two clients are the same, and because people who decide to build their own home are doing so precisely so that they can achieve exactly the home they want, we do not have any standard designs or house packages to offer clients. Each home we design is a one-off, as each reflects the individual desires of the client

How The Design Process Works.

Any house design must take into account its immediate environment, so the first stage is for our architect to visit the site, so that he can gain a feel for the location and general area.

The architect then meets the client to discuss their design brief, and it is at this stage that the cost implications are discussed. There is no point in Avalon Timber Frame Homes designing a wonderful home if the costs involved in building it are beyond the budget of the client. Only when the client fully understands the cost implications of the design they are looking for, will a planning contract be issued and preliminary designs produced.

When the design is completed to the client’s satisfaction, we are then responsible for submitting the plans for Full Planning Approval to your local authority. Because we regularly liase with the planning officer during the design process, our applications tend to have a high success rate.

Avalon Timber Frame Homes Planning Contracts are completely separate from our Building Contracts, and although we obviously hope that you will want us to engineer and build your home, you own the plans and the rights to use them as you wish.

Design Case Studies

Avalon Timber Frame Homes’ fees for the designing of buildings vary according to the size and complexity. The client is also responsible for providing a topographical site survey and paying the local authority planning fees.
